How I Get Paid

Content ManagementThis site is mainly about the blog. I write about random goodness in my life, but website optimization, aka SEO, is what I do to make money.  Here’s a list of things that I do almost on a daily basis and things you can hire me for so that I can continue to feed my children… no pressure.

Content Management & Strategy

Content is king, no really, I’m sure you’ve heard about it, but if you don’t understand it, or don’t have a strategy behind it, you will be swallowed whole.  SEO literally takes a back seat to your content, and that’s because SEO will never work without killer content.

If you haven’t started doing so, then now is the time.   Write, and write well.  This doesn’t mean to just start posting random content hoping for business.  No, you need a strategy… you need to be the company that everyone comes to for the solution to their problems.  Write meaningful content, and write it regularly!

Link Building

Everyone always talks about the importance of SEO, and you may of even heard that content is king (psst… up above) and you should always be monitoring your analytics, but all of this hard work boils down to one big thing (okay, there’s a lot more than one thing, but this is really important)… links.

You will never get to the top of Google without killer inbound links.

A brand new site will forever struggle until it begins to have inbound links pointing to it.  Sites that have been around since the beginning of Internet time will also struggle without the right links.  It is absolutely crucial to make sure you are monitoring your inbound links and to make sure you aren’t getting links from spam sites.  Now more than ever we want to hear that you are creating killer content for the sake of being a leader in your industry, and to get inbound links, but if you aren’t getting quality links, then you are only hurting yourself.

Website Analytics

Whether it’s one of the many free software’s like Google Analytics, or one of the paid one’s like Omniture, you should really get to know your analytics program.  Plan on spending a couple of hours a week trying to figure out what everything is and what is important to your key performance indicators (KPIs).  You should have goals setup, and track what your visitors are doing and how they’re behaving on your site. Discover more about your analytics, find the best software for your business and start surfing through the software like an analytics pro.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is what Internet Marketing professionals do to help websites get to the top of search engines for chosen keywords.  Look at it this way, what do you want people to search for in the search engines to find your site?  What if you were able to see how many people search for that keyword, and how competitive it is in the search engines?  It would be a lot easier to make sure that you were targeting the right keywords, right?

SEO is more than just keywords though.  It’s about content strategy, link building, social media, monitoring analytics and more.  There are a lot of free tools to help you do your own SEO, and we are more than happy to show you how a lot of them work.

So, why would I give you all of the juicy SEO secrets? Because I believe that to successfully succeed in Internet Marketing you need to know how to test your website yourself and make sure that all the SEO work that’s being done is paying off.  That and I’m tired of hearing about bad SEO companies doing more harm to a site than good… so it’s your turn to learn, at least the basics of, SEO so that you can be more informed about what’s going on with your site.

Building An SEO Strategy

SEO needs to start with a strategy.  I begin this strategy begins with a quick analysis of your site to see where the site’s current rankings are in the search engines and how people currently perform on your site.  When I know where you are now, I’ll be able to help you build a winning strategy to help your site grow.

I’ll help you get the basics (Google Webmaster and Google Analytics) in place before I even start on SEO.  And don’t worry, I’m not done working on the site until you are completely comfortable using these tools and finding out how your site is doing in the search engines.

I use whitehat SEO tactics, and more than happy to teach you how to continue SEO efforts on your own.  Here’s a few of the SEO techniques I can help you with:
